New Market Shopping Center

2007 April 12
by Liz

From the Gazette, a new shopping center has been approved in New Market, west of town:

The center, on the northeast corner of Route 144 and Mussetter Road west of New Market, will be similar to the new Urbana Town Center, with a grocery store anchoring the 146,182 square-foot plaza.

I’m trying to picture that corner.  Aren’t there a bunch of houses there?

The New Market Shopping Center was approved for six pad sites, which are chunks of land slated for a single building, such as a fast food joint or a bank.

The pad sites together total 146,182 square feet on 29 acres. That land is zoned for general commercial, which allows for pad sites.

According to the article construction should start next year.

It has been in construction for a long time but never knew what for. A M & T sign has been there for a while. No buildings just a lot of dirt being pushed back and forth.

I drove by there yesterday and there is a huge pile of dirt and the M&T sign Lakeres described. It’s hard to believe there’s 29 acres of land there. The houses are further back than I thought originally but it’s still an entrance to a new development.
