Brewer’s Alley 2 for 1

2007 April 9
by Liz

Tonight, we decided to take advantage of the Frederick Magazine 2 for 1 and went to Brewers Alley for an early dinner. We haven’t been there in a while, so it was nice to go out downtown for a change. We grabbed the table in the bar right in the front picture window for the benefit of people watching and I was glad to see that there was still an ashtray on the table.

We had the Oysters on half shell to start, reasonably priced at $11 a dozen. They were served with a sauce that I think was minced onions in beet juice. It was interestingly tart, spicy and sweet. I would have preferred horseradish and lemon, although the Oysters were large and juicy.

For entrees, I had the grilled meatloaf, which was delicious on a bed of mashed potatoes and green beans, with slivered almonds. Liz had the rack of ribs with sweet potato fries and slaw. The slaw and ribs were both good, but she seemed to enjoy the sweet potato fries the most.

We ate rather quickly, but I still managed to throw down two IPA’s to Liz’s single kool-aide green margarita. I can’t wait to go back when the weather is a bit warmer and we can eat out on the patio and enjoy of few more of the $2 brews with our meal.

I get out to Brewers at least once every two weeks. However last week was my first time attending one of their Beer Diners hosted by the brewmaster and head chef. It was incredible. If you like sampling beer and eating great food, get to one of these Beer Diners.

BTW, the fried oysters aren’t bad either.

My wife and I were there this past Saturday night. It was nice to sip at the cask on special (Trinity). Thanks Amanda who is always smiling and Tim behind the bar for some insight on different beers.
    Always enjoy Brewers!

    Cheers to Beer!

For a restaurant that has plastic tablecloths and a “pub” feel, Brewer’s has amazingly good food. I’ve yet to have a bad fish or seafood meal there. And, yeah, they do great things with sweet potatoes.

Brewer’s was one of the first local restaurants my wife and I sampled when we moved out here 5 years ago. We’ve never been disappointed. Their Thursday lobster special is dee-lish!

If you go to Restaurant.com, you can buy a gift certificate at a great discount. You have to go on the 1st of the month (apparently, early in the morning) to get it though–Brewers runs out fast. There is also Pargo’s, Bushwallers, Isabellas, and Gabrielles. I got a $25.00 gift certificate at Pargo’s for $3.00. Great DEAL!!! Check ‘er out!
