Fact or Fiction?

I received the following e-mail forward today …

[Name removed] just called me and told me a very alarming story and I wanted to share it with everyone. A girl he works with just called in to work and said she wouldn’t be able to make it in because she has to go to the police station and file a report. She was driving home last night (by herself) and was sitting at the light across from Wal-Mart (near Walkersville). While she was sitting at the light a car pulled up  behind her and started blinking their lights at her and flashing her. At first she thought she didn’t have her lights on… but she did. When the light changed she started to go home and noticed the car behind her was riding her tale. She was almost home and she realized they were still on her tail and being very aggressive. She could see it was a car full of guys. .Since she lives alone she didn’t want to show them where she lives so she went past her house to see if they followed and they did. She came to a stop sign and when she stopped the guys jumped out of their car and started to approach her vehicle, so she took off and they followed. Her cell phone was all the way in the backseat so she couldn’t get it and drive, so she went to the closet place with cops she could think off, Ft. Detrick. She went flying in there and luckily the guys didn’t follow her.

When she explained what happened to the Detrick cops they said this wasn’t the 1st time that this has happened and they are  actually working with the cops on a case. Apparently there is a gang in Frederick and part of the initiation is  to kidnap a woman and steel her car. I am not sure what they do with the victim and I don’t want to find out.

I know we get these cheesy emails all the time, but this is real and very scary. It happened in Frederick. So please keep your doors locked and your cell phones with you at night.

I hope this is fake, what do you all think?

UPDATE: Looks like it is true, check out this blurb from WFMD

It was suspicious, but it was not gang activity. That’s the conclusion of the Frederick Police Department, which investigated an incident last week where a woman was followed by a car. The woman told authoritie she noticed a car behind her vehicle late Thursday night at Route 26 and Monocacy BLVD. The driver kept flashing the headlights on high and low beams…which some have said could be linked to gang initiations. The woman drove along North Market with the car behind her. She stopped at a stop sign, and the occupants of the vehicle behind her got out and headed to her car. She sped up and drove to Fort Detrick, because she knew someone would be at the gate. The headlight flashing has been investigated by police and determined not to be gang activity. Call police if it happens to you or someone you know.

Yikes, that is pretty scary.

I think a quick call to the police station should be able to verify if this story is true or not.

This was posted on Frederick.com and I received this in an e-mail as well. The person who started the e-mail said she verified the facts by calling the police station and they said this Information was TRUE and that she was one of 10 callers in the last hour who had called about this same situation!!

Be careful, Ladies because I sure will be!!

It’s every mother’s worst nightmare…especially a mother of a teenage daughter who drives, like I am. I’m going to make sure she reads this when she gets home.

You know. When I saw that on frederick.com I wondered. So many of those going around and I figured someone just changed the scenery a little.

It’s one of the worst things imaginable! To be driving with my 5 year old little girl and have that happen!

    Horrible!

This type of incident is fairly common…..but the e-mail is an urban legend that’s been circulating for years. There’s another one about flashing headlights where if you flash yours back – they fire shots at your car. It’s a dangerous world, but a little common sense will get you through it. Panic doesn’t help at all.

I received an email about this too. I can’t vouch for whether it’s true or not but my teenage stepdaughter WAS followed late one night on Monocacy Blvd. some time around the holidays. A car with several young men in it tailed her then rode beside her then followed her again, right to our house. She made sure they kept driving around the block when she went in our door so they wouldn’t know what house was ours. I told her today if she can remember the date it happened, she should notify the police.
