Frederick County Road Wish List
The Gazette reports on an annual meeting that county commissioners have with state officials about road improvements.
Frederick County commissioners will present an extensive wish list of highway improvement projects to the Maryland Department of Transportation next month.
It’s an exercise done every year, as commissioners try to convince state highway officials that money is needed to improve the interstates and roadways in the county.
After a bit of finagling, the board allocated $250,000 toward the planning of a new interchange at the intersection of U.S. Route 15 and Trading Lane, which will eventually become Monocacy Boulevard. The project, estimated to cost $18 million to $20 million, is intended to improve safety conditions along Route 15 by eliminating U-turns and left turns now allowed across the highway. The interchange will also serve a planned commercial area in the City of Frederick known as the North Gate Plaza.
Another $250,000 was allocated for the reconstruction of Md. routes 180 and 351, between Interstate 70 and Crestwood Boulevard in Frederick. That area continues to be heavily congested, with future business development planned.
Proposed improvements to Md. Route 75, in particular the reconstruction of Green Valley Road between Interstate 70 and Md. Route 355 fell to a lower priority.
