Italian Oven in FSK Mall Closed
I just got a tip from a FredNet reader (thanks G.M.) that the Italian Oven in FSK Mall has closed. It wasn’t the best place to eat in Frederick, but it did have some pretty good dishes (e.g. the fried zucchini). There was also rarely ever any wait, but maybe that is why it is now closed.
Maybe something good will take it’s place, but it doesn’t seem like sit down restaurants do too well in the mall.

I was at the mall today with my daughter and was wondering why Italian Oven was closed. The mall was packed with kids getting primped for homecoming. I just figured someone was lame and didn’t show up to open.
Too bad. That mall needs a good restaurant as an anchor. Maybe there are just too many chains on the outskirts, so anyone indoors is doomed.
They had a really good sandwich with portabello mushrooms, onions, and peppers. We don’t go to the mall much, but my son and I always did a “date” to The Italian Oven on our yearly jaunt to get his picture taken with Santa. It was convenient and, as you said, there was rarely a wait (not to mention, crayons and butcher paper on each table).
I’m voting for Cheesecake Factory (like that’ll happen), Don Pablo’s, or PF Chang’s as a replacement. Or maybe a Legal Seafood? Can’t wait to see.
A Cheesecake factory would be money! But I think they need more room.
I always thought that once the movie theater went out of buisness in that wing of FSK that they should have turned that whole area into an eatery (bunches of small restaraunt’s with a central dining area).
They did this in Lakeforest Mall with their old theater space and the place is always packed.
NOOOOOOOOOO! I loved the Italian Over… (of course I hadn’t been in a VERY long time, so blame me)
We definitely need a sit down place to eat in that mall. Once you are there your choices are pretzels or ice cream! I want a Bennigan’s!!!! Either way, FSK needs something to eat, Subway was a good start. But think of how nice it would be during your holiday shoppiong to sit down and eat a decent meal! MMMMMMMM
I read in the most recent Frederick Magazine that Emma has also closed. It was in the TJ Meadows plaza (in my opinion, a poor location for that type of restaurant).
We always enjoyed Emma, but we moved to the southern part of the county and didn’t get up there as much as we would have liked. The service was always good, the food was great, and the restaurant itself was very cool looking inside. They probably would have done better downtown. It had that kind of feel to the place.
I think I also read that Happy’s Soul Food restaraunt in Old Town closed. This is the place that took over the infamous Casa Pizza location. It is just hard to be succesful in the restaraunt biz no matter where you are.
Have you tried the new Vietnamese place at the old pink flamingo covered diner at the corner of Market and 7th street? I saw that it just opened but I haven’t seen anyone in the parking lot. Of course, I usually drive by between 10 and 10:30.
