Holtzinger vs. Young
According to the Frederick News-Post (reg req’d):
Republican W. Jeff Holtzinger will face Democrat Ron Young for the mayor’s seat in the Frederick city general election Nov. 1.
Absentee ballots counted Thursday confirmed Mr. Holtzinger’s lead over Alderman Joe Baldi, 1,077-1,042. Mr. Holtzinger won exactly 50 percent of Republican votes from Tuesday’s primary.
The Washington Post also reports (reg req’d):
Since election night, Dougherty has refused to rule out running as an independent or at the head of another party’s ticket.
“Of course, everybody should keep their options open and, yes, it’s too soon to say,” she said yesterday. She said it would not be hard to collect the necessary signatures before the Oct. 3 deadline for independent candidates. A recent city charter revision also would permit a third party to offer her a spot on its ticket.
I feel like Frederick is on a precipice. Growth is here and will continue, but the city can manage the growth so that it will maintain the great character of Frederick. Therefore, I think this election is very important and will shape the future of Frederick for years to come.
I hope Frederick resident’s will take the time to explore both of these candidates and choose one that represents what they think Frederick should be. Here are links to Mr. Young and Mr. Holtzinger’s websites so you can start to get to know the candidates.

UPDATE: According to a Gazette article Mayor Dougherty has decided not to run as an independent canidate in Frederick’s mayoral race.
