Red Line to Frederick
According to this article there are plans to extend the Metro train to Frederick.
The Corridor Cities Transitway will connect suburbs along Interstate 270 with employment centers and mass transit hubs. Van Hollen’s office said the project effectively extends the Red Line north from Shady Grove into Clarksburg and eventually to Frederick.
Now that may lighten up traffic on 270 a little. Too bad I will probably be retired by the time the Metro makes it to Frederick.

They’ve been talking about doing this for years in the past though. The problem exists that the White Line (West Falls Church to Dulles [IAD]) needs to be completed (eg. started) as the WMATA is being fined by contract (from what I’ve been informed) since that project should’ve been completed in 2000. That’s why Metro buses have been running out to IAD for the past few years – to compensate for it.
You’re probably right about when it’ll be completed though – it’ll be decades before we actually see the Red Line come up this way. It should be going to the Rt 85 MARC station eventually from what I’ve heard (WMATA supposedly owns a good portion of the surrounding land that the MARC runs through up to the Monocacy River IIRC). By then, Frederick Airport will be supporting 737 or larger craft and I270 will be widened to a 6-lane highway.
We can all hope for it to be sooner though.
OMG, better buy up houses why you can still afford them….damn
I’m hoping to see the Red Line in the next 10 years. But hell. How long have they been working on BWI??? It seems like all the big projects in Maryland never get done!
We really need something else other than expansion of I-270 and Rt15. Frankly I think Trish Cunningham and other promising candidates for government have the right idea when they say we should make 15 a “local lane only”. They had plans for extending a new interestate AROUND frederick city off of 70.
Frankly, the communities can’t take anymore traffic growth. The noise polution and the asthetics are killing this area!
