Growth Study Approved
The Gazette reports that the Frederick Board of County Commissioners voted in favor of the Chamber of Commerce’s request to complete a study on the economic impact of residential growth in the county.
The businesses that make up the chamber contend that the high cost of housing has had a negative impact on attracting Frederick County residents to take jobs nearer to their homes. The chamber believes high housing costs have forced residents to seek jobs in Montgomery County, Virginia and Washington, D.C., where wages are traditionally higher.
I don’t need a study to tell you that people (including me) are trucking down 270 at an epic rate. Maybe Frederick employers should pay better?

I found your site recently & just wanted to say I really like it!
I’m also from Frederick – have lived here for over 20 years. This is a topic of conversation I always get excited about as I drive to Tysons Corner to work & am on the lookout for a decent paying job here in Frederick. Nothing has been comparable to VA pay.
Wow, Tysons Corner! That makes my commute to Rockville look wimpy.
I agree Northern VA and DC pay seem to be better than Mo Co. And they all seem better then Frederick.
I am glad you enjoy the blog, tell your friends!
You forget that the reason EVERYONE (the newbies) wanted to be in Frederick was that the cost of living was and is cheaper – you could get more bang for your buck. Frederick people were REAL, honest, hard working, lived at their means, not above them – blue collar – All American – Non-Materialistic REAL people. You did not have to lock your doors, or have an alarm.
All of the things that made Frederick – excuse the term FREDNECK – now EVERYONE wants to change – the suburbs keep getting pushed further and further out from the city (DC) – Rockville only boomed after WWII when GI’s came home and were given help to purchase a home – Gaithersburg used to be 5 farms – Germantown in the last 20 years has turned into a Metropolis with Mercedes Dealerships and home prices starting in the 400′s for a TH. And the list goes on, Clarksburg, Urbana, Frederick, New Market – etc. It is NOT going to stop!
Did you know that Charlestown WV is now a HOT spot for real estate – quite a drive from the city (DC).
Fred. Co is NOT the only county that residents go somewhere else to work b/c the pay scale is too low – Mont. Co (one of the richest counties in the US) cannot afford to pay their teachers, police officers, and other civil servants enough that they can live where they work –
You cannot have your cake and eat it too! We have turned into a VERY selfish society – the “ME” era.
WE ALL need to evaluate what we NEED and what we WANT – for those who drive their gas guzzling SUV’s (which they drive alone to work in) NOT A NEED, or have the 3000 sf house for a family of 3, or the desire to have an assortment of restaurants and large retail stores to entertain us, and on and on – these are WANTS, not NEEDS!
You need shelter, food, water, and love – family and friends.
We live in Maryland–not the desert, not the mountains, WHY do you NEED a Hummer? Or an 8 passenger minivan, when you have 2 children?
The same things that you LOVED are now the things that you WANT to change – Ironic!
If you want things to change – LOOK IN THE MIRROR – Evaluate what you NEED and what you WANT
Coming down from my soapbox now – Have a Great Day – Be someone who makes a difference in the World!
Wow JDB! I think you have won the award for the longest post ever to FredNet. Thanks for your thoughts.
