Enough Houses Until Twenty Fifteen

Check out this story from the Gazette:

A recent state study shows that Frederick County will have enough new homes to meet buyer demand through 2015, a conclusion that is causing mixed reaction.

The study, conducted by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, concludes that if Frederick County issues building permits at the same rate it has in the last five years, there will be enough new homes to meet demand for the next 10 years.

The study shows that in the last five years, the county issued nearly 10,000 building permits for single-family and multi-family homes. If that trend continues, the study estimates that the county will add 17,200 new households by 2015.

Read the whole article, it provides reaction from the county’s division of planning, Friends of Frederick (in support of the study), and the building community (against the study).

What do you think about Frederick’s growth? Are you a no growth, slow growth, smart growth, or let the houses fly proponent?

Smart growth all the way. There needs to be much more strategic community planning. (not only for environmental purposes, but also quality of living)

The house puking into the countryside is horrible.
