Food Tidbits

Here are a couple quick bites about new restaurants in Frederick.

First, the new IHOP has opened at Westview Promenade. My pregnant wife was having cravings for a big breakfast so we headed over to the new IHOP. The pancakes were awesome but the service was less than stellar. I had to wait in line for about 10 minutes just to pay my bill. They had two registers open and one only took cash. How stupid!

The next two tidbits come from the May 2005 edition of Frederick Magazine. The owner of Brewers Alley and other Frederick restaurants is opening a new joint on the VFW Country Club property on 40. Openeing late this summer; it will serve seafood, steak, and have a raw bar.

Mike Tauraso, another owner of many Frederick restaurants, will be opening Proof: Artisan Bakery and Barista. It is on 12 E. Patrick Street and may already be open since the article said mid-May for the opening date. Proof will serve all kinds of bread, pastries, and sweets.

My wife, also pregnant, and I took our two children to the new IHOP on Sunday morning. The food was good, but the service was less than desirable. It seems that they missed calling us when a table was ready, and then tried to blame it on us, instead of just seating us right away. Also, when you order chocolate milk and get orange juice, you’ll have some disappointed children on your hand. They took my credit card on Sunday. I guess, when places first open, service can be a bit of a problem, it takes time for new staff to get used to working together.

We also had problems with the whole waiting for a table thing. They were skipping us b/c we only had 2 in our party to take larger parties that came in after us.
