Cell Phone Service

Since living in Frederick I have had cell phone contracts with Cellular ONE, Nextel, and Verizon Wireless.

My first contract was with Cellular ONE, the reception was decent in Frederick but not so hot in Montgomery County (where I work). To be fair it has been a couple years since I have been with Cellular ONE so they may have improved on this. I left Cell ONE for Nextel basically because I am a sucker for marketing and I thought the walkie talkie feature would be cool.

Nextel is by far the most expensive plan of the three. The cell phone reception was decent and the walkie talkie feature was cool but for me, unnecessary. Nextel’s plans are broken down into two categories: expensive and even more expensive. To get a price break I went to Verizon.

Verizon has decent pricing and great cell reception where ever I go. The best of the three for price and quality.

Do you use any other Cell phone companies in Frederick? Where your experiences with these cell phone companies different? Comment on them here.

Also, check this site out: http://www.cellreception.com/. It provides consumer reports on cell phone reception around the country. Either click on Maryland on the map or put your Zip code in for more focused results.

I have used Nextel and Verizon in Frederick and around the area. Verizon is leaps and bounds better when it comes to reception. I have yet to drop a call on Verizon in the area, with Nextel, the Drive on I70 or the MARC line To DC, I could count on at least one drop, if not more.
